How to Start a WordPress Blog

There is a place to go to create your own poetry and have it read by others. You can be free of editorial control. You can have your own "cyberspace" at WordPress.

You don't need to be a poet. No one will judge your writing to be insufficient. It's your space.

There are links below which will bring you directly to the WordPress start page.

The instructions are simple. I would reprint them for you here but HubPages will brand me for duplicate content. That will not happen at WordPress.

I will link my WordPress address on my profile page once I have begun to publish. I hope that other writers and poets will join me and remove some of their eggs from this damaged basket of HUB. A tisket , a tasket, a mean not mellow basket. See, no duplicate content.

With all the "Huubla" going around at HubPages in the last few months, many Hubbers were inspired to seek alternatives to editorial limits imposed by the "OWNERS". The Constitution of the United States reposes sovereignty with the "People". HubPages is not a democracy and offers no Constitution -only TOS; "terms of service", or TS, "Tough Sh*t" - to long time contributing poets.

We all knew kids growing up who owned a ball that we needed to get a game of football, basketball or baseball going. We played by their rules so that they wouldn't take their ball and go home and wreck the game.

Some of us would like to let them go. Others hesitate at the prospect of not finding another "rich kid". There aren't a lot of "rich kids" at my playground or in my neighborhood. My poetry suffers when I am "SSSSSucking Up" and responding to computer commands to fix this and remove that. I don't enjoy reading and commenting as I once did. HubPages is no longer a pleasure - it has become a burden - drudgery, almost. Ralwus was right to leave when he did.

I apologize to all of those poets and writers who I have followed over the years - that I have been remiss of late. I won't close my account because I don't wish to create a "shadow avatar" and cause the "kid with the ball" to order everyone to remove broken links. My Hub scores will plummet. But then again, it is not my score. It is their carrot on a stick hung out in front of the jackass so that it will continue to pull their cart. Hee Haw; Hee Haw; Hee Haw. Yet, the carrot always remains beyond the reach of my braying teeth.

Magnetism

I subscibe to an RS feed of a talented editor and poet who goes by the name of Tom Rubenoff. Tom is a highly ranked Hubber who has successfully transported his poetry to a WordPress website/blog. Of his recent poem relating to 'refrigerator magnets', I observed that his energy images were electric and eclectic. I noted that "When magnetism is finally fully harnessed as a sustainable energy source, then mankind's greatest hunger will be sated." Because of Hubpages new policy against duplicate content, I need to quote myself to avoid violation of "Terms of Service" - T.S.

"Since the first log was thrown on the first fire, man has required heat and cold to heat and cool his food for preservation and self-preservation. In short, man's hunger has fueled his need to harness energy- oxen, horse and slave - for plowing, irrigation, harvest and distribution." Quoting myself, sligobay. Energy was first harnessed as animal and human energy. Calories were burned and feed and food was the first fuel. As long as you could feed your "engine", it could be exploited to manufacture other food and products during the agricultural revolution. The science of robotics and "sci-fi soon" will become the human android which consumes no food or calories has been advancing steadily. Soon, there will be no "business need" to feed seven billion humans on this planet because their labor and calorie consumption will become obsolete. Perhaps the corpses will retain value to the global economy as animal feed. Remember the movie "Soylent Green". The government prohibited burial and took charge of cremation. However, the government converted the corpses into a food product known as soylent green. This could never happen in our modern world, could it?

Since the dawn of the industrial age, oil has replaced much physical labor - calories- but needs to be replaced itself. Once the global economy institutionalized the use of 'fossil fuels' from coal to oil to uranium, the business model and structure has resisted innovation, ecology and progress. Wealth is entrenched and resists radical change which will impede status quo profit. Wealth now obstructs technology for its own advantage. The newest fuel panacea has become " shale gas". That's correct - another fossil fuel. All major oil companies are heavily invested already. Commercial truck fleets have begun the seven year conversion to natural gas burning vehicles. America possesses the largest untapped supply of shale gas and the means to mine and process this resource. Forget about uranium and nuclear power- America does not need it to satisfy its energy needs.

Sligobay then said: "The refrigerator magnet is a fine metaphor for what is needed to fuel that refrigerator and to produce its content." Magnetism is a powerful force which cannot be exploited by industry in the same way that the "combustion engine" has been exploited. Engines and furnaces require and burn fuel.

No government has adopted any rule of law which would criminalize or fine conduct and conspiracy for withholding technology from mankind. And yet, this is a common business practice. Industry purchases the patent rights for inventions which would potentially interfere with their profitability. They remove the competition and operate against the concept of "free competition" which they espouse.

Magnetism requires electric energy and those applications are developed for some functions. For instance, powerful magnets are used in junkyards to move wrecked cars. They are picked up and dropped in crushers. Magnet on - magnet off types of applications are useful.

Magnets have a reverse polarity which is only explored and discussed in sci-fi novels. It stands to reason that our human genius has resolved numerous issues which have been concealed by anti-competitive practices. Just saying......

Refrigerator Magnet by Tom Rubenoff

Anyway, the poem of Tom Rubenoff which set the wheels of my mind in motion gripped me from its opening images.

"I am a magnet
On the refrigerator door
Holding a picture of your love"

The thought of the force necessary to hold a picture between a magnet and a metal surface was subdued by the image of love in its grip.

"By choice", we choose to hold onto the love within our grip which emotion is not compelled by science but rather by our spirits.

"Surrounded by a cloud of electrons" brings our thoughts back to atomic energy.
"Some of which belong to you" suggest a melding of particles contributing to the attraction of one to and by another separate individual. Opposites attract, they say.

"Others like stray-dog-spirits
Once fed

Nipping at unconscious consciousness" suggests an unknown source of that surrounding cloud of electrons.

"Throughout busy motionless

Days on display

Feeling magnetism decaying
Tenuous temporal hold
Attraction bled".

Busy - yet, apparently motionless, seems to present a paradox. The various unique qualities of magnetism are integrated with human relations and the aspects of rising and fading and decaying attraction of magnets and people have various levels of connection. Can they be harnessed and regulated? Your guess is as good as mine.

"Your thoughts visit
The refrigerator
Every day

When they get food
For your reality
I hold a picture

Over my face
While a pack of wild minutes
Bark and drown

My voice".

The final stanzas are personal and relate to the relationship of the persons sharing the "refrigerator magnet". The poem causes the reader to wonder about the electrical glue that holds human relationships together with variations of magnetic strength. Poetry inspires. This poem inspired me. Tom Rubenoff should inspire each of us to explore a WordPress blog.

I really enjoyed your Memorial Day poem and the photo matched the mood so beautifully! As for Wordpress, it's incredible! I moved all my creative stuff over to my own site a couple of months ago and it feels good. As you say, it's my own private space to write as I wish and it feels like being at home in my writing spot when I'm posting there. I love Wordpress! My site link is on my profile and I'll be watching for yours, too :)

Hey Jerry-

thanks for this turn on brother- your critique on policy here is well founded. a good heads up...

i have to agree that the limits imposed by HP stifle my efforts to show the mountains of material i cannot publish- moderator bullshit.

once one has to edit thoughts and descriptive verse the road to mediocrity is imminent.

thanks for a great hub- peace

Thanks for the information sligobay - I created a few wordpress blogs for a small company that I worked for but since then (1-2 years ago) there have been quite a few updates, new plugins, etc that are supposed to make wordpress even better but I haven't a clue how to use. They do have some really cool templates though. I can't wait to check yours out to get some inspiration, and get back to mine, quite outdated by now I am sure....Good idea for poetry blogs.

It's hard to tell if the lemmings are heading for the edge or from it, Gerry. But you certainly present a compelling, provocative recruitment.

Hello Alexandra,

Thanks for your visit, comment and leadership. I am glad to hear that I will not be alone in my transition to freedom of speech and association. I have just clicked your RS feed to my Google Reader account. I will be following your work.

Hello Greg:

Thank you for your visit, comment and confirmation that I am not entirely delusional. My disillusionment has been more gradual than circumstances would warrant. I have been patient and accommodating of the editorial direction. I have invested hours of my time into Hubpages' Panda reaction. There is no compensation for my time even on the Hub scorecard.

sligobay 12 months ago

Hello Chatkath:

Thanks for reading and for your comment. I have no experience with WordPress but I understand that the plugins and features will suit any creative inclination. It will take a while to get established with current work obligations. Chat ya later.

Hello Nellieanna: The reference to lemmings with a penchant toward group suicide is not comforting. Lemmings are inexplicable as a species. I am glad that your reference to a recruitment suggests that I am taking a leadership role in relation to the cliff. One way or the other, this lemming has decided that the shine has worn off the Hubpenny. I will move gradually but deliberately. We will stay in touch through your website and email. In the absence of democracy or any voice at all, WE THE PEOPLE can only vote with our feet. Ralwus was and still is correct. If we don't stand for something; we will fall for anything.

Nellieanna 12 months ago

Yes, - that is so. It's important for each person, to avoid any an all lemmingship and to think-through carefully about any cliff or direction presented. It's seldom a total surprise to find oneself tumbling over one! Signs and signals, and especially one's gut feelings are almost always at least somewhat tickled.

Your astute presentation surely gives ample food for such thought for those who might be contemplating their own courses along this trek. I am certainly honed to be aware and alert and I thank you for sharing your own sense of direction! Hugs

Thanks for your deep thoughts and comments as usual, Nellieanna. Hugs.
