Hubpages Won't Submit To Google's Economic Bullying: Ode to Ralwus

59

By sligobay

Restraint of Trade

As the Earth shudders from the seismic cataclysm unfolding in Japan and the impending nuclear holocaust; the Google Farmer Algorithm has sent shock waves through the Internet Marketing world and the humble world of hub pages.  When Google quakes - dynasties crumble.  AT&T fell to America's laws against monopoly capitalism.  Microsoft was bent in submission to America's laws against monopoly capitalism. When will Google be brought to task for its domination of the search engine world?

The global economy stands in awe of Google's innovative technology which has outstripped its competition and garnered the lion's share of internet marketing revenue. The actual numbers and market share will be left to the 'numbers crunchers'.  Predatory practices and restraint of trade by Google are implicit in its success.  If Yahoo and Bing and their battalions of attorneys have not been able to piece together the puzzle yet then shame on them.  But Facebook is the big kid on the block who is big enough to thwart a bully.

As Google begins their assault on Paypal and online payment processes with an eye fixed on supplanting the credit card troika of Mastercard and Visa and American Express; some brilliant law clerk may have guessed that his bed won't be feathered by the Google GOG.

Something is wrong when there is no longer a level playing field.  Ronald Reagan's 'trickle down' rhetoric comes to mind as a convenient metaphor.  Every company which receives Google revenue crumbs is satisfied with the large crumbs which fall their way. No one questions the manna from heaven and fears economic retribution from the financial Google GOG.

What is wrong with monopoly?  Capitalism is founded upon the concept of 'arms length' transactions between persons or entities with equal bargaining positions. Contracts of adhesion between persons not in equal positions are set aside or void.  Companies are reluctant to raise a claim of unfair competition. It is more expedient to alter the way it does business to conform to the standards imposed by the company that is the revenue source.

Sometimes the true object is different from the stated object of a person or company. Hubpages and Squidoo have enjoyed high Google relevance ranking before the newest Farmer algorithm applied by Google for its search engine. Motive is not always conspicuous.  Is it possible that Google desires to remove Kontera and Amazon and Ebay from cluttering the pages where Google Adsense ads appear?  Anything is possible they say. But can you prove it is the nagging question.

Hubpages is small potatoes in the shadow of the Google Goliath. It does not harbor any romantic biblical delusions of falling a giant with a stone in a sling and will therefore yield to the demands of the bully.  Its the age-old dilemma of the the 800 pound gorilla.  Where does an 800 pound gorilla sit?  Anywhere it wants.

Knights Fall in Defense of the Realm

Hubpages is a small plot of cyberspace fealty which has been home to many a knight in shining armor. Live free and be loyal to the realm of Hubbanna.  Place your banner here and publish without pay for the values embraced by artists - creativity and community. There has been an assault upon the realm. Our Lords and ladies are leaping as vassals do to please the monarch.

One knight has ridden alone to confront and slay the dragon and thrown himself into its fiery breath - Charlie of the Hubroundtable.  Perhaps his actions may be deemed foolish and folly by some. To many; Charlie threw himself on his sword in an act of martyrdom in order to slay the beast advancing on the free domain in a cyber-world under domination of the Google Goliath - the self-proclaimed god of all that is unholy to the artist.  Serve the ends of the Robospiders. Write for the robot and not the man. Scuttle literature and art and iambic pentameter in favor of tags-H1 H2 & H3.  Charlie - we salute you- but come back and lead us in this fight to save the culture of these native sons and daughters.

I am opening this thread to say goodbye to one of hubpages favourite writers.

Ralwus

This has been the best site for me and my pomes. I have had the best of times and the best followers of all. I am leaving because of this thread. Too late now. I can't believe they haven't deleted me yet, so I just wanted you all to know. All my love and peace to all. Charlie.

I hope you pop in and read this thread Charlie. I will miss your pomes. All the best from Charlie across the pond.

With all the strain your illness wrought
Google's algorithm fraught
With lofty goals of relevance
Hubpages folds to happenstance;

Mssrs Paul Deeds and Edmondson
The whip of Google just begun
to let the blood of HP's heart
Charlie Ralwus is just the start;

Kowtow not to the GOG grog
false content standards just smog
Adsense monopoly their play
Squeeze page Amazon and Ebay;

Search engine supremacy rules
Render all to be Google's fools;
Stand your ground with all your might
Dump adsense; hire facebook; and fight.

The adjacent link describes the HUGE impact of the Google algorithm change upon the status of hubpages.  Hubs dropped 87% according to comparative analysis of page rankings before and after the algorithm change by Google.  Sistrex shows a 66% loss of keyword page ranking solely due to the algorithm change  Let us Hubbers set to work to right this injustice.

Somelikeitscott- another Google Casualty

It's March 26th 2011 the date that the Hub Staff has indicated that they will take unilateral action and begin unpublishing noncompliant Hubs. I notice that my 67 Hubs have suddenly become 66 Hubs and haven't looked to see which of my Hubs has been slashed. About two weeks ago I was told to change or be changed. I have business commitments and could not find the time. I have not earned a single pfennig since I began with Hubpages. I cannot afford to work for Hub Pages.

I follow a Hubber with 4 years of Hubivity: Somelikeitscott -another Google casualty. he says:

"But in the past week or so my inbox has been filled with HubPages emails letting me know (sometimes one by one, sometimes in groups) that all of the YouTube video postings are in violation and now the written ones are coming under fire. I get it, I get that HubPages is like I said, growing and wants to be a place for people who want to post original content. I get it but that doesn’t mean I have to like it." The link to his Hub.

Somelikeitscott has chosen not to do all of the editorial work directed by the Hub Staff and will let his Hubs die a death of attrition and will not be publishing any new work.

Creative Freedom just a memory

Two of Sligobay's Hubs were unpublished today. Efforts to comply with editorial demands have been made and these Hubs must be reviewed and approved for republication. I have taken ten other hubs and removed Amazon and Ebay capsules. Snowdrift was threatened with a specific threat which I copied and pasted on the Hub in order to lengthen the Hub and then I had a few choice words to share. They have caused an entirely new Hub to be created.  Be sure to view the new video posted as a parody of Hub Pages.

Sligobay the giants are in charge as usual. That's why we have so many billionaires. They operate on a self-serve basis and will continue to earn the maximum. Where is the free enterprise that we thought we had. The giants have climbed on the backs of the average American, and made a fortune, at our expense,with deception and fruad. They don't want to share the wealth!

Hello Nan;Poohgranma; Colin; Micky Dee and dearest Lancelot Shitinski- For those readers who do not know-Shitnski is a famous character created by Ralwus and so this page has been honored by our quixotic knight errant. Thank you all for your visits and supportive comments. You can reach me by email at yahoo as sligobay. sligobay @y. I hope to hear from shitinski directly so that we may stay in touch.

I intend to make my hubs conform by removing all Amazon capsules from my twenty offending Hubs. I never sold any books or earned any money anyway. The new rule is one product per 50 words of original content. I'll deliver zero ads and potential revenue. Next - I will continue to write to effect change from within. I will also blog from without on a new blog which I never did before. I am considering an epic poem from the perspective of a robospider roaming the web looking for keywords. That's my immediate plan and we'll see from there. Happy Saint Patrick's Day to one and all. I always did enjoy a good bar brawl.

You know how I feel about our friend Charlie no longer feeling welcome here. I'm begiinning to feel somewhat the same way! Not sure what to do about it except resuscitate my Squidoo account! Which I am in the process of doing, just to see what happens there.

Thanks for this excellent Hub and good luck with with your efforts.

Hello Tony;Austinstar;Mike Q and Poohgranma: Thanks for your visits and comments. Tony- Squidoo is in the identical position of Hupages and there is no sense jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Austinstar- Ralwus did not desert but is very much present on this page in the guise of Shitinski. Poohgranma: Your defense of Ralwus is valiant but I do not wish to host vitriolic exchanges between Hubbers on my page. Each of us is entitled to an opinion and should all be grateful that we are not residing in Japan today. Mike Q: The pen is mightier than the penlance. Happy St Patrick's Day to you all. There is no revolt or revolution unless it is by hubpages against the Goliath Google. There is a major search engine rising in the East which Goliath needs to heed. Google can be replaced if Facebook rises to the occasion and allies with China. Google has been barred from China or at least neutralized by their limitations. Goliath is not flesh and blood but merely made of dollars and nonsense. Sometimes power grabs can read like gobbledygook or Googledygook. There are greater forces than we serfs in motion in the grand scheme of things.

Dear Gerry - thank you for honoring our beloved Sir Charlie of Camelot. I will miss him mightily but perhaps can find him wherever he chooses to rest his steed and relax with his Lady Wee One. He knows he's loved and appreciated and will be sorely missed. I'm glad I saved some of his masterpieces so I won't be totally deprived. When he publishes and becomes a best seller, all who have missed him will be delighted and any who have maligned him will be shamed.

I appreciate your fierce spirit, Gerry. But the old saying that the best vengeance is to succeed at one's own game may apply. I feel you're fighting for others more than for yourself, because you will succeed, no matter what the opposition pulls.

Nothing any of us can do to serve those forces would be any more effective for their benefit than to turn our wrath on each other. However each of us chooses to exert our options is each of our best judgment, all things considered within our scope and deserves respect.

Personally, I don't vie either for scores or income here. I've never either buttered up the powers that be nor disrespected them. I'm here to be able to express myself among a great group of articulate, thinking peers and to share mutual encouragement back and forth. That is one of the freedoms here to be taken and enjoyed. So I have no first-hand quarrel with anyone with other agendas here, nor for their battles when their efforts are foiled by any big bullies at the top. In fact, I support their cause, even though it's not directly my own. Perhaps different circumstances in my own relationship here will move me into the battle zone at some point. Meantime, I just ask that my position be respected by my valued peers here, who are the folks about whose good opinion I truly care.

Google and Amazon be damned. Shame on 'em for being heavy-handed and greedy when folks came here, promised freedom to write whatever they wish and to earn some money doing it, if they choose; - but then are finding inequitable blocks in their way. Bad dogs!

To all you good folks - Happy St. Patrick's Day and prosperity! Hugs and shamrocks!

Thank you Poohgrandma and Nellieanna for your visits and lovely comments. You must know that I have processed my own frustration by publishing this Hub. I do not intend to incite insurrection or foment rebellion. As I have stated in these comments - these issues will play out on the verdant fields of the wealthy and the global economy. I have no financial stake to protect or political agenda to promote. My fervor is just one aspect of my art and personality and yearning to be free. Ke serra serra sang Doris Day - what will be will be. I labor under no delusions - of which I am aware anyway.

Many great writers are assembled here and contribute to the quality of my life. I choose to stay while others choose to leave. Thank you, Gerry. I must admit I feel incredibly disappointed by these recent events.

But one must try to put disappointment into perspective. Japan has real problems. HP's may be real but certainly meager by comparison. However, we human beings simply have to measure our subjective emotions primarily subjectively, not comparatively. So I am saddened. Hope springs eternal, though. And life goes on. Would love to really just hug everyone. There are some really precious connections here.

sligobay profile image

Nellieanna: Know that you have just hugged everyone by sincerely expressing that impulse and emotion on this page. I have felt your Hug more truly than many of the lackluster robotic hugs that have been imparted to me over the years.

The main island of the Japanese people is in grave jeopardy. The destruction of Nagasaki and Hiroshima was visited by inhumanity upon them. The minimized risk painted by the greed of the nuclear industry is another inhumanity. Many will seek to discount the cataclysm as an Act of God but God didn't build nuclear power plants. God's earthquake and tsunami visited transient harm upon a nation and people. The fallout from this nuclear nightmare will persist for ten thousand years - as will Chernoble's disaster - the equivalent length of the recorded history and civilization of humankind. Ban nuclear energy before there are more than two 'hotspots' on Mother Earth.

I have laughed and cried with Charlie and been humbled by him with his scribes here. I have no quarrel with the Hubs and will continue to write, not for any financial gain or fame, simply to share my heart and soul with kindred spirits.

Charlie and I communicate on Face Book and I fully respect his decisions to take a rest. He will be back in his good time. The force be with him, I weep on the sidelines of life and stand with Charlie and others.

I think the forums may have run off more than a few of HP's writers. That's why I stay out of that miasma. I've ventured in a few times and was sorely disappointed in the content. I think the forum trolls have trouble writing intelligent hubs because they think in sound bites. I know Charlie was actually banned for a while. I also know that if I kept up going there, I would be banned too.

Hell all- OZ HAS SPOKEN! Facebook has 500million or half billion subscribers and I am not one. I enjoy content and community and have found it here at hub pages. I have edited this Hub to include a link to a Sistex articl that shows that hub pages took the fourth largest hit from Google's algorithm change. Hubs lost 66% of their top google page rankings. It is time to circle tha wagons and write meaningful content-relevant to the google robospiders- like the mating habits of mechanical arachnoids and webs of spider desire! We the poets and writers of relevance must defend the realm against the drivel of product vendors and junk dealers. To arms! To arms! To pens and inkwells! To the keyboards Comrades!

Publish 500 word articles and better with minimal Amazon- Ebay and Kontera capsules. Thirty Hubs in thirty days from each of us. Do your keyword research. Go to google adwords and pick keywords that you can rank for with less than 100 thousand searches each month. What words rhyme with orange? Put your keywords in your H1- H2 and H3 headings. Look for keyword density of 5 to please the spiders. We know how to do this thing that Google bots seek. Write about robo romance - write for these droids.

Seduce the robo readers.

Edit the Hubs that the Hub Team recommend and defend the realm from the evil Google algorithm dragons.

Sligobay, I'm so confused but a little less so now after reading through all the comments. Charlie has incredible talent and it's a huge loss to this HubPages community. As for everything that is going on with Google, all I have been able to comprehend is that this new algorithm is supposed to stop the same articles appearing in copy and paste form all over the Internet, hence the ban on duplicate hubs. But maybe I am being naive and missing something much bigger. Oh heck, I can't even figure out my cellphone!

I just enjoy the people I have met on here so much and I hope this community remains intact.

Hello SilverGenes: Hubpages is in crisis mode to survive the major financial impact caused by their major drop in the relevance consideration of Google's ranking system-i.e. the Farmer Algorithm of Google. Google is a fact of life with them carrying 70% or better of search engine market share. They are implementing strategies to compete with Facebook and their domination of social media. Don't count Google out of the picture. I would not be surprised to see Google try to buy out or take over both Hibpages and Squidoo now they have deflated their values with this algorithm. They will be looking to acquire 'social media' properties to satiate their voracious appetite for control of the cyberworld. Thanks for your visit and kind words.

Austinstar: Welcome back to the show that never ends. No individual preference or practice can dent the shell of Google. Facebook or Microsoft or Yahoo can compete with them. We are mere mortals swept in the cyber tides.

As I was reading your work though, I first I started thinking, Oh, oh, I need my dictionary. This dude is smart. LOL. I love smart so keep being you.

Then I began thinking, Hey I think I understand him. Google wants to own everything, and Ralwus spoke out about. Please tell me I am sort of correct? I would like to believe I am not that dump. I have a son, and I help him with his homework. LOL. He needs his Mother to know a little something.

Seriously, thank you for sharing this information, because I really had not known any of this until I came across your Hub. I did not know that Ralwus -- someone I had followed -- left the Hubpages. Not cool on my part.

Keep up your unbelievable great writing style. I love it.

Take Care,

N.E.

Welcome N.E.W. to this Hub. You are not dumb at all and you understand that Google is the 800 pound gorilla that takes anything and everything they want. They changed their ranking system and really hurt hubpages. Now Hubpages feels the need to moderate and judge content and Hubs that we write. Ralwus was not having any censorship for any reason even business reasons. He closed his Hub pages account. I edited this Hub to add the last bit of info from Sistex that shows how badly damaged Hubpages and other sites were by Google's changes. My article speculates as to Google's ulterior motives. Thanks for your visit and comment.

Hello kimberly: Kid'Rock's Born Free is kickin. Love the lyrics.

As the clouds of the storm part

From loss blooms the healing heart;

No loss passes without gain

Formless specter known as pain.

Kimberly - you are loved. Hugs Gerry

Hello Sligo, I didn't realize Ralwus was gone and followed the link to your hub. I have not been on in awhile due to mom's death and now my uncle's on Mar.11th. I also had to revise hubs when I logged in, but it will be o.k. please hang in there and don't fret. It hurts when I log-in after months and people are gone. The same people who would make me smile and make my heart feel whole after a hard time and loss. We can get through the change we just have to hang in there and believe. :)

Welcome AEvans: I believe that the Hub Staff are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances. I'm sorry for your losses. I lost five significant friends and relatives last year and know the grief that you are going through. I wrote my RayDowd; Alfie and Departed Hubs to process my grief. Take a look and maybe the writing process will help you as well.

Perhaps I will have to spend a few days and take Google down a few notches for you guys. That is: if I have the time. Just kidding.

Google is monopolizing everything, though. That is true. Just a few years ago, I never even heard of Google. Yahoo! was the search engine for me. Now, I use bing, because I think their results are better. Good article, nonetheless.

Thanks ityler for your visit and comment. Don't let the Google spider-bots read it or else!

Hi,

Please remove the Nazi symbol.

It is really terrible to add it.

Sorry but fascism has not gone away yet. Symbols evolve and are part of freedom of expression. No offense intended, but I don't do requests with respect to my work.
